Do it scared!

Updated: Dec 2, 2024

My Story

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve done something completely scared shitless. Even now, as I think back to those moments, I can feel the familiar tightness in my chest.

It was my daughter's 13th birthday, and I had taken her and a couple of her friends to a theme park. And there it was, the most horrifying rollercoaster I had ever seen! I mean did it really need 40 loops?! Yes, I'm exaggerating, but you get where I am going with this. I was scared, but it was the one ride she wanted me to go on with her because she was scared to. So, we did it. We rode that rollercoaster together and it was freaking awesome! So much so we went on again later that day. We did it scared; scared shitless. And we were just fine. And here I sit, reflecting on it all.

Reflection has a funny way of transforming us into the superheroes of our own stories. The lines of that journey may blur at times—full of uncertainty, fear, and self-doubt—but in the end, you made it. Through all the fears, anxieties, and tears, you made it to the other side. And here’s the truth: it will probably happen again, friend.

But that’s okay. Because life is messy. In fact, it’s super messy sometimes. And guess what? Each time you face something that scares you, you carry the experience with you. You’ll face the next challenge with more strength, resilience, and wisdom than the last.

Embrace Fear as Part of the Journey

Doing things scared is something we all face at some point. Whether it’s starting something new, taking a leap of faith, or stepping out of your comfort zone, fear will inevitably show up. But here’s the key: fear doesn’t have to control you. The most important part of doing things scared is recognizing that fear doesn’t define you—it’s a signal that you’re stepping into growth and transformation.

Remember, every time you push through fear, you’re learning, growing, and expanding your comfort zone. You are evolving into a stronger version of yourself. And even though it feels uncomfortable, that’s exactly where the magic happens.

Shift Your Perspective and Mindset

When fear creeps in, it’s easy to freeze, doubt yourself, or back away. But what if you chose to elevate your perspective instead? What if, instead of running from fear, you embraced it as part of your journey?

Shift your mindset. See fear as a catalyst for change rather than a barrier. Focus on the lessons it’s bringing and the growth that’s unfolding in the process. Every time you do something scared, you strengthen your resilience and build confidence. It’s not about perfection; it’s about showing up and doing it anyway.

Taking Action, Even When You’re Scared

The next time you’re faced with a daunting task or a challenging decision, remember this: You have already done hard things. You have already walked through fear, doubt, and uncertainty, and you’ve come out on the other side stronger. So, what else can you do? You can keep going.

You can take the lessons from your past experiences and apply them to today’s challenges. You can choose to take action, even if you’re scared. You can shift your mindset, elevate your perspective, and move forward. The messiness of life is part of the process, and you’re doing it.
