My Story

When you hear the word healthy, what comes to mind? For many, it’s a buzzword, something trendy or fleeting. But for others, it’s something deeper—something personal, meaningful, and transformative.

If you had asked me between the ages of 20 and 38 what healthy meant, my response would have been simple: “I have zero time for that!” Does that resonate with you? Back then, I was caught up in the hustle of life, constantly on the go, and never fully aware of what health really meant for me.

Going to work, coming home to clean, cook, take care of kids, and do it all again tomorrow. I never thought more than that during certain points in my life. It felt numbing and I felt aged. Then an unforeseen trauma hit, and my world was flipped on its head. Becoming a widow was the biggest turning point in my life for not just the obvious reasons, but because of the transformation in the healing path that led me to where I am today. That was the starting point for my true healing to begin.

The Turning Point: From Struggle to Healing

My biggest, most unexpected trauma was a catalyst for change, something that forced me to confront my reality and embrace the process of healing. The shift was vital, but also deeply scary. It was a massive leap out of my comfort zone—away from pain and struggle and into something I hadn’t yet understood: the power of healing.

At the time, I had no idea what this journey would look like. Healing wasn’t immediate, and it wasn’t easy. But it was necessary. That painful shift opened the door to growth, to understanding, and ultimately to a more profound sense of well-being.

Healing is a Lifelong Journey

Now, at the age of 42 (and yes, I say that with a little laugh!), I realize that my past was always leading me toward healing. I just couldn’t see it through that lens at the time. Every phase of my life—every version of myself—was seeking out what was best for me in that moment. It wasn’t always clear, and it definitely wasn’t perfect, but it was all part of my personal journey toward health.

Looking back, I now understand that health isn’t just about physical fitness or eating the right foods. It’s a holistic experience that encompasses emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. The trauma, the struggles, the lessons—they were all a part of my path to healing. And for that, I’m grateful.

What Does Healthy Look Like for You Now?

As I reflect on my own journey, I invite you to consider your own. What does healthy mean for you today? How do you define health in your life right now? Perhaps your version of health has evolved, just as mine has. Maybe it’s about finding balance, nurturing your mental health, or learning to embrace self-care in a deeper way. Whatever it is, I encourage you to be kind to yourself and take time to explore what health truly looks like for you.

It’s not just about physical appearance or achieving external goals—it’s about embracing the totality of your well-being, from the inside out.
