Prime for the Climb!

Updated: Dec 1, 2024

My Story

Psoriatic arthritis is no joke. When I was diagnosed after my now 9-year-old son, the pain was unbearable. I immediately understood that hopping out of my bed and starting my morning was going to require some re-evaluation.

I couldn't just get up and go, I had to put one leg on the floor at a time, get up slower, sit on the edge of the bed, then stand up. I had to prime my body in order for it to function the way I needed to.

Now, with medication, proper nutrition, and daily body movement, I can get out of bet a little bit faster. But I am priming myself differently from day to day depending on what my needs are. So, friend, what are you doing to prime yourself for the day?

Priming for the Climb: A Holistic Approach to Physical, Mental, and Emotional Health

Recently, I’ve been pushing my physical limits—stepping outside my comfort zone and prioritizing movement and exercise like never before. As I move into my later years, maintaining muscle mass and staying active has become a top priority. But through this journey, I’ve learned something incredibly valuable: you can’t just jump into the climb without preparation.

That’s right—whether it’s physical fitness or mental well-being, you need to prime yourself for the climb. It's all about creating checkpoints along the way to ensure you're in a good place, physically, emotionally, and mentally. This ensures that when challenges arise, you’re fully prepared to tackle them and keep moving forward.

Physical Health: Priming for Success

As we age, maintaining physical health becomes even more important. Muscle mass, strength, and overall fitness directly impact our ability to live life to the fullest. But getting into shape or pushing your limits isn’t something you should dive into recklessly. Just as I’ve learned through my own journey, it’s crucial to create checkpoints with yourself to make sure you’re staying safe, healthy, and motivated.

These checkpoints can look like setting realistic goals, listening to your body, and adjusting your routine to avoid injury. In my case, it’s about staying in tune with my body’s needs and slowly building my physical strength over time. This method of “priming” not only makes the journey more manageable, but it also sets you up for long-term success.

Mental and Emotional Health: Preparing for Life’s Challenges

This concept of "priming" doesn’t just apply to physical fitness—it extends to our mental and emotional health as well. Life is unpredictable, and sometimes the doo-doo hits the fan in ways we can’t anticipate. Whether it's a difficult situation at work, a personal loss, or any number of challenges, we need the mental and emotional capacity to handle it.

By actively working on your mental and emotional health, you’re preparing yourself for life's inevitable ups and downs. This might mean engaging in mindfulness practices, journaling, or seeking therapy to help you build emotional resilience. It’s about creating those mental “checkpoints” that ensure you have the tools to clean up any mess life throws your way and still keep moving forward with purpose.

The Power of Taking Action: Building Self-Awareness and Growth

Here’s the key takeaway: taking action leads to self-awareness. Whether it’s in your physical fitness journey, mental health practices, or emotional well-being, the more you do with intention, the more you understand about yourself. This awareness leads to growth, improvement, and ultimately, success.

When you take steps—however small—to improve, you’re building momentum toward becoming a better version of yourself. Action doesn’t have to be grand, but it needs to be consistent. Over time, these actions accumulate, leading to the kind of transformation that enables you to tackle any challenge with confidence.

Why It’s Important to Prioritize Your Health—Body, Mind, and Soul

Maintaining balance in all areas of life is crucial for long-term happiness and success. By focusing on your physical health, mental resilience, and emotional well-being, you're giving yourself the best chance to thrive, no matter what life throws your way.

The importance of taking care of your body, mind, and soul can’t be overstated. When we invest in our overall health, we create the foundation for lasting growth, both personally and professionally. So, commit to taking action today—whether that means starting a new fitness routine, practicing mindfulness, or simply checking in with yourself emotionally. The journey of self-improvement is ongoing, but the rewards are endless.

Start Your Journey Today: Prioritize Your Health and Well-Being

If you’re ready to prime for the climb, now is the perfect time to start. Take action today to strengthen your body, mind, and spirit. Set those checkpoints along your path and commit to becoming the best version of yourself. Trust me, when you put in the effort, you’ll be amazed at how far you can go.
