My Story
As we roll into the new school year, many of us feel the pressure to start filling up our calendars with appointments, events, and to-do lists. It’s that time of year when schedules seem to pile up, and the urge to stay organized can be overwhelming. But here’s the thing—managing your time doesn’t have to be stressful. It’s all about finding balance. And with multiple children, I can whole heartedly attest to how much this can affect out state of being.
I’ll admit it: I love a good, highlighted calendar. There’s something about checking off tasks and planning out my week that gives me a sense of accomplishment. It makes everything feel a little more in control. However, I’ve come to realize that my love for a well-organized schedule isn’t always shared by the rest of my household! We all have different rhythms and ways of managing our time.
But we always come back together. We sit down as a family for dinner every single night. Even if it's ordering a pizza or a delicious homemade meal, this is one thing our family is consistent about and it has made a world of difference. So, as you stroll through the following paragraphs, think about how you can have your household come together after a long day.
Craving the Slow Down to Assist the Speeding Up
Over the years, I’ve learned that craving the slowdown to help with the speeding up has become less stressful and much easier to grow into. Life is a rollercoaster—there are highs, lows, twists, and turns, and the last thing you need is to create more chaos by over-scheduling yourself or your family.
Instead of trying to fill every minute of every day, I've come to appreciate the beauty of taking a step back. When we pause, we allow ourselves to breathe, reflect, and regain focus. And that’s the key to thriving in our busy lives. It’s not about doing more; it’s about doing what truly matters with intention.
Shifting Your Perspective: From "So Much to Do" to "So Much I Get to Do"
One of the biggest shifts I’ve experienced is in how I approach my to-do list. It’s no longer a matter of “I have so much to get done.” The perspective has changed to “Look at all I get to do!” This simple mindset shift has transformed my approach to tasks, allowing me to feel more empowered and excited about what’s ahead.
By reframing the way you see your responsibilities, you can start to enjoy the process rather than feel burdened by it. It’s not about having less to do—it’s about how you perceive and approach the things you need to do.
Choosing What’s Best for You and Your Family
Here’s the real magic: you get to choose what’s best for you and your family based on your very capable, intuitive knowing. Trust yourself to make decisions that align with your values and priorities. You don’t have to do everything. In fact, you don’t even have to do most things. Focus on what brings fulfillment, joy, and balance to your life.
Consistency and repetition are key to making this shift. It won’t happen overnight, but the more you practice tuning into your needs and slowing down, when necessary, the more natural it will become. And the payoff? It’s worth every bit of effort. A more balanced, peaceful life is the reward for making these intentional choices.
Embrace the Balance of Scheduling and Slowing Down
As we dive into this new school year, let’s remember that it’s not about filling every empty space in our calendars. It’s about making room for what matters most and allowing ourselves the space to thrive. By embracing the balance between scheduling and slowing down, we can make this year one of growth, peace, and intentional living. Trust your instincts, focus on what’s truly important, and enjoy the ride.
