Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

Updated: Dec 2, 2024

My Story

Isn't it fascinating how our perception of beauty changes over time? The concept of what is beautiful often shifts based on our experiences, growth, and the different phases of life we go through. What we find appealing today might not hold the same significance tomorrow.

For me, beauty has been a constant evolution, a reflection of where I am in life. If you had asked the child version of me what beauty meant, my response would have undoubtedly been my grandmother. Her love, strength, and presence made her the epitome of beauty. As a teenager, beauty took on a different form – it was the boy band New Kids on the Block. Fast forward to the time when I became a new mom, and beauty transformed again into the pure, innocent face of my first-born daughter. Later, as a widow, beauty was simply found in the act of living, the resilience to continue despite the hardships.

How Our Perception of Beauty Changes

As life progresses, so does our perception of beauty. What appeals to us evolves because we evolve. Our values, priorities, and understanding of the world shift, and so does our ability to recognize beauty in all its forms.

Today, my definition of beauty is not limited to physical appearance or societal standards. It extends beyond the surface and finds its way into every part of my life. Beauty, for me, can be found in every situation, action, emotion, and energy – yes, everything. Why? Because I've learned that every moment, whether joyous or challenging, holds a lesson. At times, I might not fully understand the lesson at that moment, but I trust that it will reveal itself when I need it most.

Embracing Beauty in the Everyday

At this stage in my life, the most beautiful thing is simply showing up for myself. For years, I put my own needs and self-care on the back burner, prioritizing others over myself. But now, I realize that self-love and taking time to nurture myself is the most beautiful thing I can do. It feels incredible to embrace my own worth and recognize my own beauty.

In the end, beauty is not something that exists outside of us – it resides within us and is reflected in how we choose to live our lives. Every chapter, every challenge, and every joy adds to the definition of beauty in our lives.

What Beauty Do You See?

I invite you, friend, to pause and reflect. What does beauty look like to you today? How has your perception of beauty evolved over time? Whether it’s found in the simple moments or the extraordinary, beauty is all around us – we just have to be open to seeing it.
